The KONDRA Story: How It Started Before the U.S.
KONDRA did not begin in America. In many ways, it began years earlier, in Ukraine, through work that became part of our everyday life.
Before moving to the U.S., we had already spent a long time in the handbag and accessories business. We learned from real experience, not from theory. We saw what women actually use, what makes a bag comfortable, and why small details matter more than people think. A good bag has to look beautiful, yes, but it also has to feel natural in daily life.
Then our life changed. We had to leave behind the business we had built and start again in a new country. That was not something we expected, and it was not easy to accept. When you rebuild from the beginning, you look at your work differently. You stop thinking only about products. You think about what is worth carrying forward.
For us, that meant keeping our connection to the work we knew, the values we trusted, and the people in Ukraine whose craftsmanship had always been a real part of what we did.
If you are new to KONDRA, you can start by exploring our homepage here: KONDRA bags.
Why staying connected to Ukrainian artisans mattered to us
One of the biggest reasons KONDRA means so much to us is simple: there are real people behind these bags.
Our bags are handmade by skilled artisans in Ukraine. These are people with experience, patience, and a strong understanding of their craft. They know how a bag should sit, how it should feel in the hand, how stitching changes durability, and how shape affects everyday comfort. Those things are easy to miss when you only look at a product photo, but they matter a lot in real life.
When we started again in the U.S., continuing to work with Ukrainian artisans was not just a production choice. It was a personal one. We wanted to stay connected to the people and the kind of work we respected from the beginning.
That is still one of the foundations of KONDRA today.
A few things matter to us every time a bag is made:
careful handmade work
practical design for everyday use
attention to comfort, shape, and details
continued support for Ukrainian artisans

Building KONDRA again in the United States
Starting over in the U.S. did not mean starting with no experience. But it did mean rebuilding in real life, step by step.
We had to understand a different customer, a different market, and a different pace. We had to earn trust again. That takes time for any small business, and especially for one carrying a personal history behind it.
Little by little, KONDRA became more than a way to sell bags online. It became a bridge between two parts of our life - the years we spent building in Ukraine and the new chapter we were trying to create in America.
That is why this brand is personal to us. It is not just about style. It is also about resilience, meaningful work, and the decision not to let everything we built disappear.

What we want people to feel when they find KONDRA

Of course, we want people to find a bag they love. That part matters. But we also want the brand to feel real.
We do not want KONDRA to feel like a random online catalog. We want it to feel thoughtful, personal, and grounded in actual care. Whether someone chooses a tote, a crossbody bag, a satchel, a backpack, or a wallet, we want it to feel like something made with intention and meant to be used, not just displayed.
That is why our collections are built around everyday life. We care about style, but we also care about usefulness. A bag should make sense for the person carrying it.

Why this story still shapes everything we do
KONDRA is our way of building again without losing where we came from.
It keeps us connected to Ukraine, to the artisans we work with, and to the values that shaped this brand from the beginning. It also gives us a way to move forward - not by pretending the difficult parts never happened, but by creating something honest and useful out of them.
That is the story behind KONDRA. And in many ways, it is still only the beginning.
